Are you becoming obsolete, write your Resume

So you have realized that you are becoming obsolete, things you know are either from experience, which really is not that significant because you haven’t learned those just faced the problem and solved it, never decided to jot it down, learn from it or use it anywhere else so that the problem is handled before it crops up. Other things you know are something’s which you have learned when starting your career and at that time you did a study and practiced but now it has been years and you are stuck in a gut, going to the office doing your job which is the bare minimum and never learning anything new.

The only silver lining in the above paragraph is that “you have realized that you are becoming obsolete”. At least now you know you have to start your journey to be a better professional. You are in this profession because you love technology not just to play games on Xbox or PS but to see how this works.

Now, the next problem that comes is getting awed by the task at hand, so we know that there are quite a few things which we need to learn and get proficient in, we look at twitter, blogs, websites which talk about next new thing and how that will change the way we do our task, but where to start, what to do, should do go through basics again, learn new technology.

You won’t know where to begin, you’ll get overwhelmed by the task, and you’ll end up doing nothing.

You will find lots of articles, blogs telling you how to approach this conundrum and my idea is also not that radical it just a bit different.

Normally the first thing we do is make a plan, write down all the things on high level what we need to do and then plan each task to its completion but, what I have seen is people do everything right till this point, have all the energy in the world to do it but, then they either stop because they see how much they have to do or just have no idea what should they do with this list.

I think the problem is to visualize what you want.

Why not make a resume before you start learning. A resume is something which you should be proud of, which will be your identity for your future employers so why not write a resume which you are proud of. Write everything you would want to have in your resume which would make you confident while approaching a job interview.

A resume is something that will help you visualize, see in concrete terms what you want to become.

So, I think if you are feeling down because you think you are not where you want to be in your professional life, write a resume and then work towards achieving. Resume will be a constant reminder of what you want to be and what you may not become if you don’t anchor down and start learning.

Let resume be your starting and checkpoint for this journey.

Any other ideas?
